CASA GIRASOLE

Location and History

This lovely farmhouse is set on a hillside not far from the village of Mercatale, in Tuscany.

Originally built in the Middle Ages as a refuge from the plague by a Venetian family, it is steeped in history. Retaining many of the original features, Casa Girasole has been sympathetically restored to a very high standard, providing spacious accommodation for up to eight people. It takes advantage of modern ecological technology to be an energy efficient yet very comfortable house in all seasons.

Casa Girasole is in an ideal location for visiting both Tuscany and Umbria; Assisi, Siena, Perugia, Cortona and Lake Trasimeno are all within an easy drive. A handbook is provided with suggestions for day trips and places to visit, local eating places and details about markets and other shopping information.


Accommodation

The house boasts a large all-purpose living and dining room, with a log fire which also powers under floor heating. Sofas, including one sofa-bed, TV and video, books, long dining table with chairs and storage units comprise the furnishing. French windows lead outside to the dining area.

The kitchen is fitted with modern appliances, including fridge/freezer, dishwasher, gas hob and electric oven, and just about everything you would expect to find in your own kitchen. A washing machine is situated in the cantina. There is also a downstairs WC.

Upstairs, there are four bedrooms, two of which have an en-suite shower and WC. There is a fully equipped bathroom with tub and shower which completes the upstairs accommodation.

Hot water is provided by solar panels, but this can be topped up with a gas fired boiler in the winter. All bed linens and towels are provided, though guests are asked to bring their own pool towels.


Outside
A large outdoor play/parking/al fresco dining area (with barbecue, tables and chairs, full sized table tennis table) leads via a short pathway to a spectacular pool area with views of up to 50 miles. Lounge beds are provided around the pool, with a shaded area for rest and relaxation. The pool measures a generous 10 x 5metres, and there are gentle stone steps leading down into the pool for younger guests to gain confidence. Flower beds, herb gardens and tubs of flowers are maintained for the pleasure of our guests.

Booking
Casa Girasole is available to rent throughout the year, directly from the family which owns it. There are no agents’ fees to pay, and consequently the rental is considerably lower than other comparable houses.
